Graduated from the Free University of Brussels as a psychiatrist in 2004. Worked for many years at St. John's Hospital in Brussels as a general psychiatrist and later as an elderly psychiatrist where I helped set up the elderly psychiatry service in close collaboration with other disciplines, including geriatricians. After this, I continued building my expertise in geriatric psychiatry at the University Psychiatric Center Duffel from 2016 tem 2024, both on a ward for the elderly with cognitive problems and on a ward set up for over-75s with anxiety and mood disorders. The approach in the elderly focuses on the specific problems and involves both pharmacological and psychotherapeuthical interventions. Psychological unwellness in the elderly expresses itself in very diverse ways and often differently than in adults, so a holistic approach is often needed with attention to existential, humanistic and spiritual aspects. In addition, I have always continued to work as a general adult psychiatrist and as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in outpatient settings.
